Common Fehlers

Hey gorgeous readers,

Before I dive into it, did you like my way of inserting German into the title?! Fehler is German for mistake and I wanted to look cool or in other terms as I like to call it a wannabe attempt(there is no harm in being wannabe unless you start to overdo it then it’s just plain annoying) . Lol before it turns into some other blog, I shall start getting to the point.

Today I am gonna talk about very common mistakes or blunders or fehlers that bloggers make without realizing that these errors can leave a bad impression on readers.I know I’ll be roasted a lot for this topic for many reasons including getting comments like it’s not like you have degree in literature or stop promoting this English craze (I get it). It is a language and if you are using it then at least try to use it properly.

I am no grammar expert, I am sure this blog post will have plenty of errors. I am also sure about the fact that the nice people who have the expertise just scroll down and roll their eyes(while reading blog posts). They’re kind enough not to shame anyone publicly. It has become difficult to point out the common errors but occasional memes help a lot lol. Anyway, I think its better to correct privately than doing the public shame stunt. However, people even take offence if you privately correct them. Posting Memes are good idea jbtw (kill me please for inserting this slang in a super serious post). For instance, the meme about using first form of verb after did has helped a lot but you can still see people making this stupid blunder (some people just never learn or maybe don’t proofread).

For me a well written caption (that’s the whole point of blogs) or well spoken YouTube video means a great deal. I stop midway if I spot too many errors ( I ignore one or two but if its more than 2/3 then I skip or sometimes I stop “following”- I didn’t sign up for bad blog posts). Similarly if I find way of talk in YouTube videos weird and too fake then I stop watching(well that’s entirely another topic).

Let’s get into the list of common blunders made by everyone especially bloggers!

First form of Verb:

Always use a first form of verb while using did (very common one and yet you’ll see a lot of people doing this).

Perfect Tense:

We use a lot of perfect tense right? There won’t be any para in any blog post without the use of has or have. You have to have to have (trying to emphasize) to use the third form of verb/past participle with it. She has done, she has eaten, and she has sent (not send for God’s sake). Another similar mistake is she have been eating (wait am I hungry or what, why I am using “eat” too much?? lulz). She/he is singular- you are supposed to use “has” with singular and for plural you use “have”. For instance: she has finished her meal.

They have finished their (not there)meal.

Do and Does

Same goes for do and does! Stop writing she do nothing (it cringes me so hard). Do you remember the novel based movie called: how she does it? (its not how she do it?). How they do it? (Correct one).

The Unnecessary Addition of “S”

This one is tricky and many people don’t know about it so I won’t blame them. It’s never anyways! it is pure slang. The correct term is anyway! It’s not vacations, it’s vacation (collective noun). It’s not hairs (it’s hair).

(Also, do you know its not alot? its a lot!- just an additional tip)

The Missing Comma

Did you know that when you are giving examples and when you add last example with “and”, you are supposed to add comma? For instance, She collects lipsticks, blushes, eye shadows, and mascaras. I have seen many bloggers making this mistake so it’s okay but now you know so be careful please.

Since and For

Okay I know you guys love using “since” in your sentences( I know for sure many of you are cursing me right now). “Since” is used when you know the exact time and “For” is used when you are not sure of the time period. Let me give you some examples to make it clear. For instance, I have been doing my homework since 2:00 pm ( I know the time here). In case of using For: I have been doing homework for two hours ( since two hours is wrong). She’s in the business since 1990 or she’s in the business for 29 years.

Some More Blunders:

You’re (you are) is often confused with your.

There with their or their with there (very annoying I know)

It’s (it is) and Its (belonging to it)

Then and Than

Aforementioned are some of blunders on the top of my mind. So how many of blunders you guys are making? or do you know about blunders that I have missed? Like I said I don’t have any degree and some of you, who are reading it very carefully to point out the mistakes in my writing then don’t hesitate and Dm me- I am here to learn. Keep these few common mistakes in mind and avoid cringing nice people!

Love,

Your wannabe blogger P
